An Individual Being Fingerprinted

Fingerprinting

Many employers require fingerprint-based criminal records checks before they will hire an individual.

Other employers (including schools, daycare centers, and healthcare facilities) are required by state law to conduct background checks as part of the hiring process.

Some professions (counselors, social workers, realtors, insurance providers, etc.) require background checks as a condition of licensure.

When you’re fingerprinted at the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office, your prints are scanned and electronically sent to the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) for comparison against a statewide criminal database. The FBI performs a similar electronic check against a national database.

BCI and FBI fingerprint cards can be completed at the Sheriff’s Office. The office also will conduct traditional ink card fingerprinting. The costs are as follows:

  • BCI Fingerprints: $30
  • FBI Fingerprints: $40
  • Ink Fingerprints: $5

All payments must be made in cash, and appointments are required.

Fingerprinting services are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm and on Fridays from 8:30 am to 12 pm.

What do you need to bring with you to your appointment?

  1. State I.D. or Drivers License
  2. The Ohio Revised Code(s) (FBI/BCI Code Number) provided by your employer.
  3. The Address for the results of the fingerprinting to be sent to.
