The Professional Standards and Training Section of the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for hiring (including recruitment and background investigations) all new corrections officers, dispatchers, clerks and nurse applicants. The Professional Standards and Training Section also is responsible for all mandated and in-house training for all corrections and law enforcement officers who are certified through the agency. This training includes continuing education in the areas of firearms, tasers, subject control, use of force, first aid and CPR.
In addition, the Professional Standards and Training Section:
- Provides a full-time, 146-hour, state-approved Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA)
- Maintains and supports the approval, certification and training of all deputy sheriff reserve members and special deputy status officers
- Assists with the Ohio Collaborative Community-Police Advisory Board certification process
